Director 2007-2009

Mathias “Matt” Sackmeister was born in Newark, NJ. The family moved to Orange, NJ where he attended Cleveland Street School. After graduating from Cleveland Street School, his family moved to East Orange, NJ where Matt went to Clifford Scott High School and also to Newark Votech High School.

Matt’s family then moved to Edison, NJ where Matt worked for a manufacturing plant and is where he met his wife, Eileen. At that time, Matt volunteered his draft and was inducted into the US. Army. While is the US Army, Matt and Eileen married.

When he finished his tour of service, Matt and Eileen moved to Irvington, NJ. While living in Irvington, Matt and Eileen’s daughter was born.   After four years in Irvington, they purchased a home in Woodbridge. NJ and lived there for 31 years. Matt and Eileen’s son was born after they moved to Woodbridge, NJ.

Matt worked for a while in his father’s machine shop and also drove a diaper truck. He then went to work for Western Electric. He continued his education evenings at Lincoln Tech School for HVAC. Eventually he transferred to AT&T from which he retired. Matt also worked part time for most of his working years at an auto store called 1001 Auto Parts.

Matt and Eileen sold the home in Woodbridge and purchased a home in Little Egg Harbor where they lived until they moved to the Mirage.

Once in the Mirage, Matt joined the Men’s Club, the Bingo Committee, the Italian American Cultural Club, and was Chairperson for the Facility and Maintenance Committee, responsible for the upkeep of the Mirage Clubhouse. He also is a member of the Hiking Club, a substitute for the Mirage bowling League and the Mirage Bocce League.

Outside of the Mirage community, Matt belongs to the American Legion, Post 232 and is a member of The Vintage Auto Museum of New Jersey.
