Sal Rainone was born in New York City, NY where he lived for a few years. He spent most of his preteen years in rural Somerset County, NJ on the spacious 300 acre grounds of the Veterans Administration Hospital at Lyons where his father, a doctor, did his military service during World War II.
After the war, the family moved to suburban Essex County, NJ, where Sal played high school football even though he was only 120 pounds. After high school, he joined the US Marine Corp. as he puts it, “…intent on saving the USA from Communism.”
Upon his release from the Marine Corp, Sal became an educator and was deeply involved in the unionization of public school teachers, helping them achieve better pay and benefits. Representing people with workplace problems led Sal to law school. Once he earned his LLD, Sal practice mainly centered around civil law, as he says, “Trying to inject civility into personal injury, commercial, matrimonial, family and real estate disputes.”
Throughout his career, he has been politically involved at all levels which Sal believes probably encouraged his participation in the Mirage men’s Club. He is also an active member of the Mirage Players.
Sal has been happily married for 57 years to the marvelous Miss Joan. They have two great children, seven wonderful grandchildren and as Sal says several pet deer who devour his expensive plantings.
