Eddie Fitz was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1961. Shortly thereafter, his family relocated to Irvington, where he attended eight years of Catholic grammar school before graduating from Irvington High School in 1979. During his high school years, Eddie was active in sports, playing on the baseball, football, and bowling teams.
After high school, Eddie attended Kean College in Union, New Jersey, for two years before accepting a position as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in 1981. He dedicated 43 years to the Postal Service, retiring in 2024. For 30 of those years, Eddie served as Shop Steward in his office, representing and defending more than 50 letter carriers in grievance and disciplinary matters.
Eddie continues his commitment to postal workers as a member of the Executive Board of the New Jersey State Association of Letter Carriers, representing over 6,000 letter carriers statewide. In this role, he participates in annual meetings with members of Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., advocating for postal issues affecting workers and the public.
In addition to his postal career, Eddie has owned and operated his own DJ business for more than 35 years.
Eddie is married to Maria, his loving wife, and the couple recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in September 2025. They raised their children in their Bloomfield, New Jersey home, before relocating in 2019 to their forever home at the Mirage in Barnegat.
Maria owns and operates a marketing, social media, and public relations firm, Media Consultants, LLC, which she continues to run from their home office in Barnegat.
Together, Eddie and Maria have two adult children and are the proud grandparents of four grandsons, all of whom reside in Northern New Jersey.
